In 1953, Bill Wagner left Paris, Tennessee, with a dream—to follow in his father’s footsteps and open his own shoe store. That dream became a reality in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, when he opened his first footwear store in Downtown Tuscaloosa. Bill dedicated himself to running the store, overseeing daily operations, and building a reputation for quality footwear and exceptional service. A few years later, he expanded the business by opening Wagner’s Shoes in McFarland Mall, where it served the community for many years.

Bill’s son, Tommy Wagner, grew up in the family business, learning the trade from the ground up. When Bill retired, Tommy took the reins, continuing the legacy and passing his knowledge down to his son, Matt Wagner. Today, Matt—representing the fourth generation of the Wagner family—serves as President of Wagner’s Shoes Incorporated, ensuring that the Wagner name remains synonymous with quality and service.

While our name and values remain unchanged, our business has evolved. We now proudly operate three distinct storefronts: Wagner’s Shoes for Kids, Wagner’s RunWalk, and The Athlete’s Foot. Additionally, our family business has expanded into custom apparel and team gear through Wagner’s Team Sports, your one-stop shop for custom printing, embroidery, and sports equipment.
